Not What You'd Expect: The Unlikely Characters of Christmas

Series Description

The basics of the biblical Christmas narrative are so familiar to many of us, we could probably recite them in our sleep: an angel comes to Mary, tells her she’s pregnant, her and Joseph travel to their hometown, only to find there’s “no room for them in the inn,” so then the baby Jesus is born in a barn, and laid in a manger. That’s pretty much the gist of it, right?

Well, kind of. The reality is that this story might be so familiar to us, that we miss its provocative, surprising, and unusual nature. The story of the first Christmas is, in fact, precisely not what we’d expect it to be. It contains unusual characters, unusual scenarios, and unusual twists.

This series takes four weeks to explore the impact that the unlikely characters of Christmas have for you and I today.
